SILENCE OUT LOUD
VEVS in collaboration with THISISJANE/ Janneke Hooymans
By the use of lights and dark areas we create space for the exquisite selection of works by Joost Zwagerman .
The colors of the exhibition are limited to black and white, two extremes that highlight how diverse the selection of his works is. Silence is not easily caught, we provide only the preconditions. The light with its inevitable drawbacks.
The entrance along an eight-meter wall of light: a transition to the world of art by Joost Zwagerman. Following, white and dark walls that cut the space, shadows through a deep dark grey carpet. Secluded dark spaces and open light ones.
White art pieces against a dark background, white on white, black on black. The artworks are in dialogue with each other. They are hung in an unconventional way: very high or low, wedged between floor and ceiling. Sometimes shocking and unexpected, provoking discussion.
Fragments of texts on the wall above the artwork, a single utterance of Joost to lift a corner of the veil.
Traversing the space on socks or slippers adds extra depth to the physical experience of the exhibition.
This exhibition is meant to be experienced without explanation. For those who want to know more, there is a hand-out with an explanation and an index of the works.
To be seen until June 2016
